The Ambulence Poem

Lights Flash

Sirens rip through the night
tearing the sky to shreds

life snaps like a frayed thread
like an overused elastic band

and you’d been worn so thin

Red lights flash

an overdue warning sign
an “I’m fine”

the lie pools thick and warm
it sticks to your skin, but still –

as it left you, did you find release?

as blue lights fade

in the distance, in your eyes
I’m frozen, reading the lines

your face speaks
words you hid

the note you didn’t leave
