Corkscrew Curls

Corkscrew Curls
with the brown eyes
and flushed cheeks
I think we’ve met before
perhaps in our youth
though we were different then –
I, more cheerful
you, less reserved.
And though life’s brambled paths
may have torn us asunder,
buried my tongue like hidden treasure
buried you like a family secret,
reunited, we may breed freedom
for each other.
I want to know you again
know you so well that we
melt into one.

I was once a stranger to myself
Never again
